Criss Cross Apple Sauce

Well…hellooooooooo, September!

I know there are those out there that will want to shoot me for this, but I am not sorry to see summer fading in the rearview mirror in the slightest. I’ve been over the heat of summer since sometime in early July, though I do, indeed, know better than to tell people that.

I’m the reason they put the pumpkins out for sale at the grocery store Labor Day weekend…you know I’ve already bought more than one (along with pumpkin spice scented candles and cloves to put in the apple cider I’ll now begin buying by the gallon…stop. judging.me.).

The rainy season has also begun here in Seattle, much to the lament of every person I talk to. But I love it. It just begs for a second pot of coffee and homemade baked goods and a lit candle and a long day of writing…what’s not to love?

All of this to say thank you so much for the break- I’ve made good use of it.

I have not been particularly productive, but I have been well rested, which was what I really needed.

Learning when hard work and powering through blocks is what’s needed, and when a stepping back and good rest is what’s needed might truly be at the heart of wisdom.

But since I’m still working toward the whole wisdom thing, I don’t always recognize when I need which approach, but this time I definitely got it right.

So thank you. Truly.

I leave on Friday to drive back across the country. Chili Dog will be my navigator as I drive the 3,000 miles to New England for some work obligations beginning on the 27th. I admit that I’m actually pretty excited about the solo drive…too much of my twenties was spent yelling song lyrics at the top of my lungs as I criss-crossed the country to not still have a deep love of a long stretch of highway and no one to answer to (though there’s a decent chance I’ll’ll be singing a different sort of tune by the end of my third or fourth 12-hour day in a row…).

I don’t have much more for you today (yikes! you’d have thought I’d have planned out my “comeback post” more carefully! whoops...), but I just wanted to begin with my biggest heartfelt thank you- this community is such a gift to me.

And to say I’m back, so expect some good stuff over the next few weeks even as I’m traveling (we have some books to discuss, yo!).

Thank youuuuuuuuuuuu!!
